 For the last 17 years Peter Ward has been at the forefront of earth pigment research and painting in the UK. His journey began in North Devon, looking into the locally significant pigment Bideford Black and has since expanded, including contributions to national and international exhibitions, projects and publications. This exhibition brings together all aspects Peter’s expansive interdisciplinary creative practice with hand foraged and processed earth pigments from Devon and Cornwall for the first time. Peter is currently based in West Penwith, Cornwall. As apart of this exciting exhibition at The Heseltine Gallery, Pete Ward will be working with A-Level students from Truro School on their Cape Cornwall Artists Residential, as well as offering a variety of explorative public talks  and workshops.

Pete Ward Earth Pigments Workshop

Saturday October 21 2023 10-4pm

The workshop will offer practical insights into Peter’s art making process with earth pigments from Cornwall and North Devon, including hands-on pigment processing and paint-making demonstrations with a range of traditional binders (gum Arabic, egg, linseed/poppy oil and acrylic medium) and their geological and social history, alongside space to reflect upon the ecological relevance of making with foraged materials.
